Mac¦s Tournament Update - Evening Edition



Calgary, Alberta, (January 1, 2013) v The Mac¦s Midget AAA Tournament is pleased to provide the following game summary for this evening's championship game:

Male Division: Gold Medal Game

Vancouver NW Giants v  3                 Carolina Jr. Hurricanes v 2         

The 2012 championship game in the male division resulted in a sudden victory overtime match between the Vancouver NW Giants and the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes.  The first team on the scoreboard was the Jr. Hurricanes with a goal by Jesse Schwartz.  The Giants answered back with two minutes remaining in the first period with a goal from Anthony Conti.  The score was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play and shots were even at 12-11 for the Hurricanes.  Early in the second period, the Jr. Hurricanes¦ Dylan Bengston scored increasing his team¦s lead to 2-1.  A potential game-shifting opportunity for the Giants arose when Jarid Lukosevicius was awarded a penalty shot.  Net minder for the Jr. Hurricanes, Sean Kuehn shut him out keeping the score 2-1 ending the second period.  With one minute remaining in the game, the NW Giants pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker and Brandon Del Grosso was able to put it in the net with 12 seconds remaining bringing the game into overtime.  In the 10-minute overtime period there was still no scoring forcing yet another 20-minute period.  Then at the 14-minute mark, the NW Giants came out on top with Jackson Cressey sliding it past the goalie. The Vancouver Giants won 3-2 and are officially the 35th Annual Mac¦s Tournament Champions.  Game star for the NW Giants was Anthony Conti, and for the Jr. Hurricanes net minder Sean Kuehn.
